A Chinese Blue and White ’Hunters’ Dish Of circular form with foliate rim, decorated in bright shades of underglaze blue, painted with a scene of hunters on horseback wearing hunting caps, one smoking a pipe, the rim with arched panels each enclosing a maiden engaged in leisurely pursuits against a background of flowering plants, the reverse with beribboned auspicious emblems, including a lotus, a conch and artemisia leaf, the glazed base with a six-character mark of Chenghua within a double circle. Period: Kangxi (1662‑1722). Diameter: 34 cm. PROVENANCE Gunnar Josephson (1889‑1972), thence by descent in the family. Gunnar Josephson was the proprietor of a wellknown bookshop in Stockholm and also chairman of the Mosaic congregation in Stockholm.
