Wucai Dragon Jar

China. Transition, 1600s. Height 32 cm Baluster-shaped jar with high shoulders, and with a high neck. Hand-painted Wucai décor in cobalt blue underglaze and iron red, green, aubergine and yellow in enamel colours. Depicts motifs of two dragons, one yellow and one green, floating among clouds in search of the burning pearl. The neck is decorated with stylized foliage. With secondary wooden lid. Age-related wear and tear. Surface scratches. Strong wear on the glaze and some shallow grudges on the mouth, as well as a larger grudge. A crack from the brim (about 10 cm). Some surface marks. Abrasion and drying cracks on the lid.
